Pre-commencement

Before the program begins, you’ll be connected with a current Science graduate as your buddy to help you settle in.  We will keep in contact to answer any questions you might have and invite you to optional events to meet the other graduates before your first day.

Induction

We welcome you with an in-person induction where you’ll meet your manager, the graduate program team and get to know other graduates across the department. The induction is designed to explore your 2-year developmental plan and set you up for success with support and clear expectations.

Development

Unlock your potential through tailored workshops in writing, cultural safety, project management, and career planning. Use your dedicated learning and development budget to build technical and future-ready skills. Sharpen your leadership, project management and presentation skills by organising impactful regional and metro forums for your fellow graduates. Work with stakeholders to create connection and meaningful experiences in a fully supported environment.

Rotations

Complete three 8-month rotations, some offering a regional focus, to build a deep understanding of DEECA’s work. During your rotation you'll experience diverse teams and leadership styles, and contribute to real-world outcomes through policy, research, programs, and projects. Engage in work that aligns with your values, to support thriving, productive and sustainable communities, environments and industries such as contributing to Victoria’s climate change strategy.

Connection

Build strong connections across the department through events and networking initiatives.

Get involved in the Emerging Professionals Network— a staff-led network supporting early career professionals across the department.

Mentors

During the program, you’ll be supported by mentors, including alumni and senior leaders. Having a mentor is a great way to learn from experienced leaders and build your skills.

Career pathways

Explore your own career pathway across the department and Victorian public service, opening doors to diverse opportunities post-program.

Program road-map
