Data polices and standards
Many (but not all) datasets owned and managed by DEECA are available for no cost as open data under a Creative Commons license in accordance with the Victorian Government's DataVic data policies and standards.
This includes most Vicmap, Planning and Transport data produced by the Department of Transport and Planning and Heritage data produced by the Department of Premier and Cabinet which are available via DEECA's DataShare.
You can share, copy, redistribute (in any medium or format), adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
A number of datasets are not available under Creative Commons and need to be accessed under a data access license agreement.
Data access license agreement
In general, the licence allows licensees to use the data for personal use or within their business but does not permit the data to be commercialised or on-sold.
Vicmap products, not currently implemented by the DataVic access policy, are available for purchase from a network of official data service providers.
