Currently the Victorian Government is undertaking a major program of forest management reform. This reform recognises and values traditional knowledge and the rights of Victoria’s Traditional Owners. It also responds to forest management challenges including climate change, population growth, and changing community needs.  

The forest management reform program aims to enable the highest and best value forest uses for Victorian communities.

Forests are vital natural resources.  Forests provide clean water and air, habitats for animals, and livelihoods for humans.   They prevent soil erosion, mitigate climate change, and enable unique cultural, social and recreational experiences.
